FEMA Camp Locations - Felix Cheong

These are some of the post-card type images that Don said would be useful to put up. They're all of FEMA camps and their different locations. We could probably learn some of the layout of the camps from the arial shots, but they seem to be very varied in terms of siting and layout. The location and some information are under the photos. There are more on the site that I found, i just chose a few to post, you can go there for more info.

Biloxi Ms., October 4, 2005 --Emergency Temporary Housing Facility for disaster victims from Hurricane Katrina. FEMA is providing temporary emergency housing like these travel trailers in Biloxi, Mississippi. John Fleck / FEMA


Baton Rouge, LA, January 4, 2006 -- Travel trailers are used as temporary housing provided by FEMA to hurricane victims. This site is housed along the outside perimeter of the Baton Rouge Airport. Public transportation has added this site to its regular route to accomodate the residents.


Purvis, Miss., October 13, 2005 --These temporary housing units have been brought in to house FEMA and local hire staff working at the Purvis travel trailer staging area. Hurricane Katrina displaced thousands from the coast and local housing is not currently available.



Jackson, MS., December 29, 2005 -- A small modular home is being constructed in Jackson, MS., by a non-profit group which plans to bring the house to a coastal town in Mississippi. The group is hoping that portable, temporary houses will be brought by FEMA and used as an alternative to travel trailers. This house using two sets of bunk beds can house four people.

Pascagoula, Miss., November 2, 2005 -- The Ingalls-Wright Emergency Group Site (EGS) in Pascagoula, Miss. FEMA is using many methods to temporarily house Mississippi residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina.


D'Iberville, Miss., December 10, 2005 -- The FEMA D'Iberville Middle School Emergency Group Site (EGS) is used for temporary housing of residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
